Cultivate the Core for a Strong Body and Mind

Core Strength

These exercises strengthen your core muscles, includeing your abdominal muscles, back muscles and the muscles around the pelvis.

There may not be a more potent point in the body than the navel center! By cultivating strength in this area, we can begin to tap into a great healing force and generate the power required to live a bright and dynamic life. Your core is connected with your shoulders, hips, and spine, so we’ll work on these areas as well, to make sure your practice is safe and effective. 

The first class of this 4-week course will be focused on moving with control and stability. In the weeks following, Rebecca L'Abbé will teach you how to access deep abdominal muscles and cultivate inner fire as you move through classic yoga asanas and Pilates exercises.

Each class will provide guided practice to help you establish deep, even, and smooth diaphragmatic breathing to relax, sleep better, and manage negative emotions. Students will learn about three types of breathing—involuntary, voluntary, and non-voluntary—and the instructor will explain how diaphragmatic breathing can be used to override the unhealthy effects of poor breathing on the mind and body.

REQUIRED PROPS:

Yoga mat, block, 8” exercise ball, and some kind of weight between 3 and 10 pounds. A barbell plate will work as well as a stack of coffee table-style books or a sandbag if you have one. Sandbags will be available if you attend class in-studio!

  • Time: 11:00am - 12:15pm (75-minutes)

  • Zoom plus in-person instruction (in-studio strongly encouraged and class size limited to 12)

  • Contiguous attendance highly recommended to understand and build on weekly lessons

  • Cost is $60 for 4-classes (included in any level monthly membership)
