Introductory Pranayama in the Iyengar Tradition

Introductory Pranayama in the Iyengar Tradition

Weekly on Thursdays

Beginning March 3, 2022
10:30am - 11:30am

Join Yoga Cville and guest instructor, Joe Adlesic, for a weekly exploration of introductory yogic breathing practices within the Iyengar yoga structure.

Asana practice creates a foundation for pranayama through understanding precision in alignment/openness in the ribs and chest, awareness of involuntary breathing, and learning to relax deeply in savasana.

This then allows students to begin practicing/exploring the more subtle aspects of regulating breathing through introductory pranayama practices.

These pranayama practices have a wide range of effects along the body - mind spectrum:  physically - soothing/relaxing, emotionally - calming/comforting and state of mind - focused/alert and quiet/open.

REQUIRED PROPS:

Introductory Iyengar pranayama practices are all done lying down with particular ways of using folded blankets under the back and head to create a relaxed/passive openness in the ribs and chest.

PRE-REQUISITE:

Minimum one-year prior Iyengar asana experience/study.
